Bio

Hi!

It was about time, but in March 2009 I finally decided to put together somewhat of a more serious site, to act as a central place to publish and link to all my work. Additionally I will post personal blogs about things that struck me in one way or another. In short, this site will be keep track of everything I have written in the past and everything I will write in the future.

That's me! Playing the PSP :-)

But who is Jesse Zuurmond?

I’m a 22-year old New Media graduate at the University of Amsterdam and New Media MA-student at Utrecht University. I’m currently living in Leiden. New Media courses focus on the role new media play in various areas of our society, such as daily life, economy, politics et cetera. Within New Media I’m especially interested in journalism, games and ethical issues. Besides New Media I’m interested in philosophy, writing, reading, travelling and having a good time with friends.

Current affairs?

During 2010 and 2011 I will be focusing on my getting my Master’s degree at Utrecht University. This involves completing courses, internship and writing a thesis. The city of Utrecht is positioning itself als the gaming capital in the Netherlands, both in the academic as well as the commercial sense. This provides the perfect opportunity to do some new research into my favorite subject.

Besides my education, I still try to make ends meet as a game journalist, writing (and doing some other stuff, such as video) for various publications.

Future ambitions?

Since writing has always been a part of my life, I hope to be able to keep on doing that for as long as possible. After graduation, I’m not quite sure what’s next. If possible, I want to keep on doing research. Of course, if all goes well, my ambition is to climb the ranks of game journalism, slowly but steadily. My goal is to be able to contribute interesting and thoughtful articles to as wide an audience as possible.

Thanks!

You’re welcome! Enjoy this blog and game on!
