Game Review: Canabalt (iPhone & PC)
I am proud to announce that as of this month, I am in possession of an Apple iPhone 3GS. Hurrah! Obviously it’s an awesome device, both from a technological perspective as well as from a gamer’s perspective. The App Store has a lot of junk to offer, but also plenty of innovative games, such as Canabalt.
This simple, but addictive game is all about running, and its simplicity is what makes it so strong. Not only is it a game though, it is a brilliantly crafted metaphor for our current globalized society. Individuality is being repressed by anonymous governments, elaborate surveillance networks and the like. Canabalt’s sterile, clean look and unknown antihero represent those things in a perfect way. To me, it is both art and a game, thus also a must-have.
